Khoreshte Chaqaleh va Gojeh

Baby Almonds and Sour Plum Stew

Chaqaleh (30)
Chaqaleh (15)

Product Description

This for me is one of the most delicate Khoreshts. Its very seasonal and can be had for only a few weeks in Spring (that is if you dont cheat). I personally stock up in the freezer so I can have it out of season (a little naughty). I try to privelege seasons and proximity in my cooking, regretfully there are occassions where this is not possible.

What is it with us Persians we like to eat our produce unripe. Guess we are in a hurry. Chaqaleh is baby almonds picked before they ripen and the shell develops. Gojeh Sabz is essentially unripe plums. Both are consumed in huge quantities raw with salt by Iranian children, adults too. I have fond memories of munching on these delicacies in Tehroon during my childhood.
